Addisons Disease

Addison’s disease is a rare, chronic condition brought about by the failure of the adrenal glands which produce essential hormones such as cortisol. Lifelong, continuous treatment with steroid replacement therapy is required. With the right balance of daily medication, most people with the disease are able to continue life much as it was before their illness.

One of the symptoms of this disease is increased pigmentation of the skin, however, this is not usually linked to Addison’s Disease until a minor infection has an abnormally long recovery time and the cause investigated.
