Melasma is skin pigmentation, a problem that affects many people all over the world. The primary location for Melasma is the upper cheek, nose, forehead and upper lip. The purpose of pigmentation or melanocyte is to produce melanin through a chemical process that takes place.

In cases where Melasma is caused by hormonal imbalance, medication can be stopped and eventually the patches disappear. Melasma developed during pregnancy disappears after birth but where it does not disappear treatment can be used to heal the Melasma.
The types of treatment that can be used to treat pigmentation include the following.
Use of creams that contains hydroquinone can be applied on areas affected by pigmentation. This creams helps to lighten the skin
One can also use chemical peels to treat Melasma. These chemical peels include glycolic acid peels which are mixed with bleaching creams for better results to be achieved.
Laser method for treatment is another way for treating Melasma. Laser treatment is preferred for treating dermal Melasma. This method of treatment uses ultra violet rays to destroy Melasma cells. Laser treatment is considered to produce better result as compared to other methods of treatment.
Natural methods can also be used to treat Melasma. These methods include the use of citric acid mixed with sugar. Coconut milk is also used to treat Melasma. Coconut milk is mixed with turmeric and rose water and applied into the skin.
The natural methods for treating Melasma are very cheap and effective. They do not cause any harm to the skin because they do no use chemicals.
